Some nightstands look like end tables, and some wicker cubes can also be great end tables if they have a lid. Just remember that the style of the piece is more important than what the piece was actually designed for. Make sure that any end table you choose is about the same size as the furniture you already have. Dainty tables do not work well with huge pieces of furniture, and modern furniture doesn't match very well with some antique tables.

If you purchase metal and glass tables for example, they will not carry the same weight as a wood table. As such, you can go with something that's a bit larger or which makes a bigger statement. It will have the same impact on the room as a smaller wood table. If it has extensive use of glass, such as having top and bottom shelves that are glass, you can scale up even a bit more.
