When it comes to furnishings in the living space, the number of people who are in the home at the time dictate what is really needed to make it a good space. If there are just a few of you, you only need one or two end tables and they will take care of holding drinks, a lamp, and maybe a few appetizers, so you can kick back and enjoy your favorite show. But what if you are entertaining? If you have a number of people over, and break into a game of charades, a pair of end tables aren't going to be enough to hold all the drinks and other things they want to put down. You don't want those guests trying to play charades holding drinks in their hands, do you?

End tables should usually be the height of the sofa's arm and will act as a frame for the larger piece. If your sofa is a modern design, you may find the arm isn't much higher than a coffee table. Add a lamp and if possible have them wired so you can switch them on and off from a wall switch. If rewiring isn't possible, add a simple remote control.
