Interiors are not all about looks, they're about people. Designers use furniture and accessories to give people what they need, functionally, artistically and emotionally. Choosing the right table, and accenting with the right plants and flowers, are important parts of that process.
Antique Mahogany side table is good if you like collecting them for their style and historical value. There are a number of modern sets that simply might not be offering you the style and charm of antique piece. Most modern pieces offer with a design that is sleek and matches very well with the home decor. You also have to keep in mind that a good antique can always be very much expensive and so most people purchase them as a type of investment.
Of course then there is the bedroom which is what everyone normally thinks of using these tables for when they hear the term side table. Which is also a great idea; there is really no need for a big bulky night stand. I personally prefer to have a side table next to my bed. I have had night stands with drawers, and extra storage. All it seemed to do was just collect massive amounts of clutter.
There are a lot of great reasons for you to get a side table. For one, they can be very aesthetically pleasing. If you pick one that matches your other décor, then a side table can add that little finishing touch that brings a room to life. Also, they are great for any place where you need some table space, but don't have enough room for a full sized table. While it's true that many people won't notice the side tables in your house, they are like the salt in your food: you don't notice it unless there's too much, but the food wouldn't taste very good without it.
Nightstands in the bedrooms. Because they are small and light you can use these tables in the bedroom in place of nightstands. In fact, you can end up with two entirely different styles, tied together with matching lamps.
