Wooden or Metal Chest - Nautical styling is in and many furniture décor stores are offering a wide variety of beautiful chests in both wood and metal for home accents. But why not make them functional as well as an accent. A pair of tall chests at the ends of your sofa or between your furniture settings can create a great set of decorative end tables. You can also make end tables out of a series of stacked graduated chests.
In addition, end-tables also come in a variety of designs and materials, from antique to modern, allowing you to match them to your existing furniture, thus giving your home an attractive finishing touch.
Besides having ornamental appeal, end tables give you a platform to display mementos, knick-knacks or artwork. End tables also provide space for innovative lighting throughout your home. Place a lamp on an end table to give your home a softer, more intimate ambiance.
Are you a fan of antiques or does your taste run more modern?
It doesn't necessarily have to be an end table. Also remember that end tables can be just about anything you can imagine. Some nightstands look like end tables, and some wicker cubes can also be great end tables if they have a lid. Just remember that the style of the piece is more important than what the piece was actually designed for. Make sure that any end table you choose is about the same size as the furniture you already have. Dainty tables do not work well with huge pieces of furniture, and modern furniture doesn't match very well with some antique tables.
If storage is important, consider going with a drum table instead. These are a little bulkier in appearance, but give you much needed storage, since the table has one large door-ed unit with shelves inside or one of more drawers. These can even really add character to the room as well as offer storage. Drum tables are particularly handy if you like to knit, read or have other hobbies where you like to keep your stuff handy.
