Some people purchase their tables as part of a table set. This usually includes a matching coffee table. But you don't have to purchase them this way. Conceivably, each table can be different, if they have the same general design elements, the same palette of color or stain, the same architectural lines, etc. If you have two end tables in the room, you do want these to match, but they can contrast with the coffee table.
Style. The next important thing to keep in mind when selecting an end table is style, and this is where each end table will vary the most from the next one. Shoppers who know they tend to keep a lot of books and magazines in their sitting room will probably prefer a table with a built-in magazine rack. This type of table can either have a rack attached to the side of the table or a solid table with a door that opens to a large storage space underneath. The mission style is also very popular, and some mission tables have a magazine rack attached to them.
Coffee and end table sets come in all shapes and sizes as well as styles. This can make shopping for them a bit of an adventure, since there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, to choose from.
When it comes to furnishings in the living space, the number of people who are in the home at the time dictate what is really needed to make it a good space. If there are just a few of you, you only need one or two end tables and they will take care of holding drinks, a lamp, and maybe a few appetizers, so you can kick back and enjoy your favorite show. But what if you are entertaining? If you have a number of people over, and break into a game of charades, a pair of end tables aren't going to be enough to hold all the drinks and other things they want to put down. You don't want those guests trying to play charades holding drinks in their hands, do you?
Somewhere along the line, however, everything became more complex. Some blame the conversation pit era; that crafty sofa that didn't really have an end. Venerable end tables simply had nowhere to go. Coffee tables were suddenly on their own, placed in the center of the pit so visitors had a place to put their drinks while they, well, conversed.
Keep them Clean. It doesn't take much to mess up the finish of end tables. All that dust and dirt that is floating in the air of your home can make a mess of your end tables. Dirt and dust can seep into the tables and scratch the surface, not to mention getting stuck in the finish.
