So, what's the stylish small home or apartment owner to do? Look for furniture that will still work as a part of your home, yet is small enough not to take up all that precious floor space.
End tables create a visual interruption in the room to spice up the over all look. Imagine walking into a room and seeing nothing but a number of overstuffed floral print furniture pieces. With nothing to break up the endless cycle of flowers, the look would be overwhelming. But the simple addition of a pair of small, decorative end tables with a complimentary yet contrasting design will break up that floral pattern and make the overall look of the room less overwhelming and much more comforting and appealing.
Not everyone has a budget to purchase large antique pieces. Tens of thousands of dollars for a large antique desk or armoire may not be a part of your budget, as that's a lot of money to be out for one piece of furniture.
The lines between what is and what isn't an end table has blurred in recent years. In fact, accent tables will now do very good service as end tables, adding a little more character to the room.
However, if you have a translucent top instead of a clear one, you need to consider going with something a bit smaller, in the same general neighborhood as a traditional wood end table.
Space the tables out where they will be the most useful for your guests. If you have a number of seating areas spread out around the house, make sure the square end tables are accessible to those who take a seat and would like somewhere to set their drink.
Bring all the square end tables you can find out into the common area of your home. These are going to be your new drink and appetizer tables.
